1. Doodled the drawing in Metacreations Art Dabbler 2.1 (super old program). I do find it very responsive to my Aiptek tablet, though. Saved it as a bitmap.

2. Opened the saved bitmap in openCanvas 4.03E Plus (System Products) as a multiply layer.
Created a standard layer and painted with the watercolor brush, afterwards painted the background on another standard layer. Finally added reflections and highlights on an addition layer on top of the first multiply.

Es la prueba contundente de que todo el tiempo que he pasado aprendiendo a controlar mi lengua antes de decir algo irrespetuoso o estúpido ha sido un desperdicio. Review: Howl's Moving Castle

Of all the animation I have watched in recent memory, this probably qualifies as one of the most imaginative and artistic.

Miyazaki succeeds in creating a memorable setting for the story of a very sensible and upright girl who is suddenly removed from her quiet daily routine. We see how she struggles with hardships imposed on her by others, and how her cheery attitude turns even the worse predicament into an opportunity to grow stronger and do what's right.

The central theme of the story is the importance of having a heart, and making your decisions according to it's mandates. That you know when your decisions are selfish or capricious, and if you take the time to listen to your true inner voice, you will do the right thing every time.
It's beautiful, poetic and a great addition to anyone's DVD collection.

The only complaint I have is that it didn't output Dolby Digital 5.1, maybe a defect of the disc I purchased?




De toda la animación que he visto en memoria reciente, esta probablemente sea una de las más imaginativas y artísticas.

Miyazaki crea exitosamente una puesta en escena de la historia de una muchacha muy sensata y de fuertes principios que repentinamente es removida de su rutina diaria. Vemos como lucha con dificultades impuestas sobre ella por otros, y como su actitud alegre convierte hasta el peor predicamento en una oportunidad para fortalecerse y hacer lo correcto.

El tema central de la historia es la importancia de tener un corazón, y tomar tus decisiones de acuerdo a sus mandatos. Que todos sabemos cuando nuestras decisiones son egoístas o caprichosas, y que si nos tomamos el tiempo de escuchar nuestra verdadera voz interior, vamos a hacer la elección correcta siempre.

Es hermosa, poética y una gran adición a la colección de DVDs de cualquiera.

La única queja que tengo es que no logré que el sonido fuera Dolby Digital 5.1, tal vez un defecto del disco que compré?

Well, after a lot of suffering and waiting and wailing from some of the candidates, we finally have a president. Will he be incorruptible and think of the people who elected him before any personal interest? Only God knows.
What I know is that the guy has a reputation to uphold, him being a Nobel Peace Prize winner and everything, so here's hoping he behaves within reason and doesn't bankrupt the country.

Certifications Suck Las Certificaciones Apestan

So, for 3 months I didn't do anything but study. I did not have any fun during the holidays, and studied well into the wee hours of dawn several times.

End result? I did not get certified. I did all I could, all that was humanly possible, and I came pretty close. But no prize.

Now I have to study for another 2 months or so before I can present the exam again. I really must enjoy having no life.

Entonces por 3 meses no hice nada sino estudiar. No me divertí durante las festividades de fin de año, y estudié hasta la madrugada en muchas ocasiones.

Resultado final? No me certifiqué. Hice todo lo que pude, todo lo humanamente posible y me acerqué bastante. Pero no hubo premio.

Ahora tengo que estudiar por otros 2 meses más o menos antes de presentar el examen de nuevo. De verdad que debo disfrutar no tener vida.

Why do I teach a manga class?

Well, let’s just say that I have always been privileged, in the sense that I have always been able to indulge in my hobbies. My parents always encouraged my cartooning inclinations, and got me all the materials I needed express the stuff sloshing around in my head.

But there are kids who may never have that chance. Sometimes their parents don’t understand them, or they lack the guidance or social circumstances to actually make their creativity gel. There are many people in general who will never have the chance to tell their little stories and create their very own cartoon people, even if every time they grab paper and pencil they feel they should be doing something more than doodles.

I have to say I am aware not everyone expresses themselves in this manner, so I’ll help a few of the ones who can. The sense of accomplishment when you create something beautiful with your hands is enormous, and people of all ages deserve the extra self-esteem.

Por qué enseño una clase de manga?

Bueno, digamos que siempre he sido privilegiado en el sentido que siempre he sido capaz de satisfacer mis aficiones. Mis padres siempre alentaron mis aspiraciones caricaturescas, y me consiguieron todos los materiales que necesitaba para expresar las cosas que chapotean en mi cabeza.

Sin embargo hay muchachos que tal vez nunca tengan esa oportunidad. A veces sus padres no los entienden, o les falta la guía o las circunstancias sociales para hacer que su creatividad se solidifique. Hay mucha gente en general que nunca tendrá la oportunidad de contar sus pequeñas historias y crear sus propias personas de caricatura, aún si cada vez que toman papel y lápiz sienten que deberían de hacer algo más que garabatos.

Debo aclarar que soy consciente que no todo el mundo se expresa de esta forma, así que ayudaré unos cuantos de los que pueden. El sentimiento de logro cuando se crea algo hermoso con las manos es enorme, y gente de todas las edades se merece la autoestima extra.

What have I been up to? Qué he estado haciendo?

Notable things in my life recently:

I have been studying like a madman. I have a certification exam coming up at work, and it's a ton to swallow. I have to do well, but it's going to take an additional percentage of my brain capacity I don't know if I can access.

I'm going to begin working on a graphic novel very soon. I have approached this like a project, so the planning with deadlines and tasks has already been laid out. My lovely wife has offered to become my editor, and I hope to have both print and web outlets for the work. I don't want to get rich or quit my day job, I just want to improve as an artist and put to paper the weird stuff floating in my head. If I can get a little profit out of it, it will all go to a Tablet PC fund. That is the teaching tool I need to give my Sunday classes.

I will also attempt to publish a humorous webcomic. It's called "Fresh!" and stars a Tomato and an Onion. You can have a look at a preview @ www.fresh.smackjeeves.com

I have also decided that I can actually pour my weird taste and poor humor into a prose container. I have started a review website, where I will ramble about movies, manga and other stuff that catches my eye. Have a look @ www.bigalreviews.blogspot.com

Cosas notables en mi vida reciente:

He estado estudiando como un demente. Tengo un examen de certificación en el trabajo pronto, y es una tonelada que me tengo que tragar. Me tiene que ir bien, pero me va a hacer falta un porcentaje adicional de capacidad cerebral que no sé si pueda accesar.

Voy a comenzar a trabajar en una novela gráfica pronto. Lo voy a manejar como un proyecto, así que la planeación con fechas de entrega y tareas ya fue preparada. Mi adorable esposa ha ofrecido ser mi editora, y espero tener salidas impresas y en internet para el trabajo. No quiero hacerme millonario o dejar mi trabajo por esto, solo quiero mejorar como artista y poner en papel las cosas extrañas que flotan en mi cabeza. Si logro lucrar un poquito con esto, todo el dinero irá a un fondo para la compra de una Tablet PC. Esa es la herramienta que necesito para dar mis clases los domingos.

También intentaré publicar un webcomic humorístico. Se llama "Fresh!" y es protagonizado por un Tomate y una Cebolla. Pueden ver un adelanto en www.fresh.smackjeeves.com
